Die Hard by GuyzNite

Feel good song of the year. Hands down.

Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker!

For the love of god, if you're going to post music that awful you should put up some kind of warning.

Hey, J.p., I believe my blockquote of "Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker!" should've been sufficient warning. It's POPULAR culture, it's not Jenufa.

You're probably the same J.p. that didn't appreciate Armageddon for all it's popcorny goodness. Yet another Bruce Willis saves the world film. Don't be hating on my boy Bruce. Seriously, Die Hard is in my all time top 10 alongside Last Year at Marienbad and Groundhog Day. And all three of those examples are in for very very different reasons.

Next, I bet you'll tell me that Transformers sucks...

Then again, I guess the fact that the band is named "guyznite" means I should have expected some kind of awful fallout boy retread.

Come out to the coast, we'll get together, have a few laughs...

Ah, Die Hard. Good old fashion blow 'em up action.

My objection was not to the Die Hard, it was to the awful, awful music. There's lots of popular music that (unlike that song) doesn't make my ears burn and my brain want to die. I'm sure, for instance, that Jack White could write a Die Hard-themed song that I would find less offensive.

It's true, I don't really get popcorn movies as a genre. Laury got me to go to Spider Man 3, and I thought it was awful. For me, there are a lot more fun and affordable ways to spend my time. I'm not planning to see Transformers, and I'm a bit baffled by the people who are. I mean, there already is a Transformers movie, and its awesome.

I also think the yay-America, violence-solves-everything cowboy attitude implicit in action movies is the same one that leads us to think that invading other countries is a good idea.

On the other hand, I enjoyed Hot Fuzz very much. In fact I sort of pity all future action movies that have to follow it. Then again, they were already horribly vacuous and derivative, so the fact that someone has called them out on it will probably go completely unnoticed.

So, Rog, what have you learned from Die Hard?

Nice link, spakkadi.

Yeah, I totally agree, countries never went to war before Bruckheimer and Simpson...

My contract as pedant-in-residence requires me to bite on shit like this, so here goes.

I asserted that action movies espouse a sort of anti-liberal, fascist ethos that makes violence seem like a good solution to problems (although to be fair, this isn't true of all of them). I further asserted that this attitude is the same one that leads people to think that invading other countries is a good solution as well. I did not say that action movies are the sole source of this attitude (in fact, I didn't even say that they promulgate it).

Also, your response espouses a false dichotomy wherein you try to imply that since something is not a contributory factor to all wars, it can't be a contributory factor to any wars.

Yo, JP, I think I own THAT contract.
Are we going to have to have a pedantry-off to settle this?
