that was a great article. I wonder though what Kennan meant by "political containment". Persumably things like the Marshall Plan, Radio Free Europe, and "diplomacy". It's unclear what such things would have accomplished on their own, without being backed by military force, and we'll never know, of course.
He seemed to have the correct instincts against many of our unnecessary military interventions. Too bad the others didn't listen to him on that.
Of course I appreciated the paragraph about cars, suburbia, and railroads. I object to the implication that those views are socially conservative though.
